Sound like you?
Worry, a habit or poor sleep running the show?
- You lie awake at 2am, going over the same few thoughts.
- You promised yourself you’d stop. Then you didn’t.
- Your chest tightens long before the meeting starts.
- One fear quietly decides where you go and what you do.
None of this means you are weak. Your mind has practised a reaction so often that it fires before you get a say. A trigger shows up, your nervous system jumps, and the old pattern runs. In hypnosis you stay calm, alert and in charge. That is where we start to change it.

You can work with me in two ways, and it’s me you talk to either way. Most of my sessions happen by video, because it saves the drive.

The person behind The Hypno Coach
Who you’ll work with: Ernest McLeod, clinical hypnotherapist
I’ve been Adelaide’s Hypno Coach since 2012, with fourteen years in practice. I grew up near Vienna, moved to South Australia in 1991, and wrote software for about twenty years first.
Three ideas guide me: love life, life is a journey, and challenges can be overcome. My aim is more clarity and balance for you, day to day. You work with me, start to finish. I also teach other hypnotherapists. The Australian Hypnotherapists’ Association has approved my smoking, vaping and gambling cessation courses for professional development (CPD).
- Fellow, ASCH
- Certified NLP Practitioner
- Time Line Therapy® Practitioner
- Trainer: AHA-approved CPD courses
A plain note: hypnotherapy has no government register in Australia. That means I’m not AHPRA-registered, and I’m not a psychologist. My ASCH membership is voluntary.

Before you book
Hypnotherapy Adelaide questions, answered plainly
Here are twelve things people often ask me on the free call. There’s a longer FAQ page too.
What can hypnotherapy help with?
Adults come to me for worry, panic, a phobia, smoking or vaping, drinking, gambling, sleep and low mood. Hypnotherapy works on patterns of thinking and reacting that run on autopilot. It isn’t right for every problem, so I’ll tell you honestly on the free call. You can also browse the five areas above.
How much does a hypnotherapy session cost in Adelaide?
Four sessions for $1,000 paid at the start, or $300 a session as you go. Plans for ongoing worry, trauma or low mood run 6 to 12 sessions at $250 each prepaid, $1,500 to $3,000 in total. Free 15-minute call first. Quitting smoking or vaping is $590 in total. All prices and terms
Is hypnotherapy covered by Medicare?
No. Medicare doesn’t pay for hypnotherapy, and you don’t need a GP referral to see me. Some private health funds give a little back under extras, so check with yours. Prepaid sessions stay valid for 12 months.
Are there any downsides or risks?
For most adults it’s gentle and safe, and you’re aware the whole time. Some people feel sleepy or a bit emotional afterwards, so rest before you drive. Do you live with psychosis or another serious mental illness? Then talk to your doctor and me first, as it may not suit you. The other downsides are cost and effort. Medicare won’t help, and change takes practice.
How many sessions will I need?
Many problems fit four sessions. Ongoing worry, panic, burnout, trauma, low mood and OCD more often take 6 to 12. Quitting smoking or vaping is one 90-minute visit with a year of support. People differ, so use these numbers as a guide.
Does video work as well as meeting face to face?
A screen carries my voice and our focus, and those are what count. Many clients find it easier to settle at home, with no travel before or after. If you’d rather meet in person, we can arrange it. How video sessions work
Can hypnosis make me do things I don’t want to?
No. A hypnotic state is focused attention plus deep relaxation. You hear everything, you can talk, and you can open your eyes at any time. Nobody can make you act against your own values.
Hypnosis, hypnotherapy, hypnotist: what’s the difference?
Hypnosis is the relaxed, focused state itself. Hypnotherapy means using hypnosis one to one, in private, for a change you’ve chosen. A stage hypnotist uses it to entertain a crowd. Neither title is regulated in Australia, so ask any hypnotherapist about their training and memberships.
Can I keep seeing my GP or psychologist?
Yes, and I’d encourage it. Hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy for your wellbeing. It can sit beside cognitive behaviour therapy or any care you already have. Please don’t change a medicine without your doctor.
Will anyone else hear what I tell you?
Only in one rare case. Sessions are confidential and your story stays with me. The one exception, as for any practitioner, is a serious risk to someone’s safety. My privacy policy explains how I handle your details under the Australian Privacy Principles.
Who do you work with?
Adults aged 18 and over, by video across Australia or face to face by arrangement. For a child or teenager, please start with your GP or a school counsellor.
I’ve never been hypnotised. What happens the first time?
First we talk about what’s going on and what you’d like instead. Then I guide you into a calm, focused state, using your own words and pictures. Afterwards we chat about how it felt, and you get a recording to play at home.
