Is the vape always in your hand?
- You reach for it in traffic, at red lights, in the ad breaks.
- It got you off smokes. Now the vape itself is the problem.
- You panic a little when the battery runs low.
- You puff in bed, then again as soon as you wake.
- You’ve thrown one in the bin, then bought a new one two days later.
- You have no idea how many puffs a day it is, and you’d rather not know.
None of this makes you weak. A device built for all-day use gets used all day. Pregnant, or using a prescribed vape? Check with your GP before anything else. Quitline (13 78 48) is free and helps with vapes too.
How hypnosis helps you stop reaching for the vape
Hypnosis is focused, relaxed attention, and in our session we aim it at your own cues. You hear every word and stay in charge. You can speak, move or open your eyes at any point.
A vape never burns down, so the reach gets tied to dozens of small cues: boredom, a tense email, the drive home. First we map yours. When do you reach, and what does the puff seem to fix? Once you’re settled and calm, I work with suggestion and imagery. You play each moment through with empty hands, until that feels ordinary.
Cravings will still turn up in the first weeks. So you practise riding one out: feel it rise, stay with your breath, and watch it fade. Your reasons for stopping, like your health and wellbeing, get tied to those moments too.
How quit vaping hypnotherapy works: by video or in Adelaide
It runs as my 3 Steps to a Smoke Free Life program, shaped around your vape.
- Step 1: a free 15-minute phone chat
You tell me how and when you vape and what you’ve tried. I’ll say plainly whether I think this suits you. No hard sell.
- Step 2: your 90-minute session
We talk through your habit, then move into the hypnotic part, built on your own triggers. You go home with an audio recording and a quick self-hypnosis routine for the weeks ahead.
- Step 3: twelve months of back-up
Follow-up calls, text messages and top-up sessions for a full year, whenever you need them. A rough week in month five is covered too.
Online sessions happen on Google Meet, which works much like a call via Zoom. Set yourself up in a private room with good internet and a pair of headphones. If the picture drops out, I phone you straight back. Face-to-face sessions are by arrangement.
Got questions before you decide?Ask them on the free call. Fifteen minutes, then take all the time you need.
What the research says about hypnosis for quitting vaping
There is very little research on hypnotherapy for vaping. I haven’t found one published trial that tests it for vapes. So nobody can honestly say how well it works here.
The nearest evidence comes from cigarettes. A 2019 Cochrane review pooled 14 studies and 1,926 people, and rated the evidence low certainty. It couldn’t say if hypnotherapy does better than other quit support. Any advantage, the authors said, is “small at most”.
Phone counselling has firmer support. Another Cochrane review from 2019 looked at 104 trials. Quitline-style phone counselling helped smokers stop. Quitline counsels people who vape too. So I work beside Quitline and your GP, and you won’t see a quit figure here.
Is quit vaping hypnotherapy safe?
For most adults, yes. There’s no medicine and no device involved, and you stay aware throughout. You might feel a bit sleepy or teary for a short while afterwards.
If a doctor prescribed your vape, ask them before you stop. Stopping can bring withdrawal. If you take regular medicine, let your GP or pharmacist know when you plan to stop. Living with psychosis or another serious mental illness? Start with your GP. Already seeing a counsellor or psychologist? Keep going while we work.

A plain word on what I’m not. Hypnotherapy is not a registered health profession here, so I’m not AHPRA-registered, and I’m not a psychologist. Each membership above is voluntary. I also teach this approach to other hypnotherapists. The Australian Hypnotherapists’ Association has approved my smoking, vaping and gambling cessation courses for professional development (CPD). Questions about quit vaping hypnotherapy in Adelaide
Does hypnotherapy work for quitting vaping?
Nobody knows yet, because no trials have tested it for vapes. For cigarettes the research is thin, as explained above. It may suit you if you’ve decided to stop and want extra help beside Quitline and your GP. Feeling calm after a session is nice, but that’s not a success rate.
What’s the success rate for quit vaping hypnotherapy?
I don’t give one. There are no vaping studies to take a figure from. For smoking, the Cochrane authors warned that rates advertised by practitioners are likely to be inflated.
How effective is hypnotherapy for quitting smoking?
Not clearly better than other quit help. The 2019 Cochrane review found any edge is “small at most”. Quitline counselling has stronger support, so I offer hypnotherapy as an extra, not a swap.
Can hypnotherapy help with nicotine addiction?
It works on the habit side: the reach, the cues and how you answer an urge. Your body’s physical dependence is a separate piece, so your GP or pharmacist can talk through the options.
Will hypnotherapy help with vaping cravings and withdrawal?
It can give you ways to cope. You might feel edgy, hungry or restless, or sleep badly for a while. We rehearse those moments in the session, and the follow-up calls help on hard days. It can’t remove withdrawal, so ask your pharmacist too.
How many hypnotherapy sessions does it take to quit vaping?
The program is built on one 90-minute session. If a tough stretch hits later in the year, top-up sessions are included for 12 months.
How much does a hypnotherapy session cost in Adelaide?
A single session with me is $300. For vaping I offer the $590 program instead, which covers the 90-minute session and a year of follow-up. That price is the same by video or in person.
Is online hypnotherapy as effective as in-person sessions?
I can’t point to a study comparing them for vaping. The work relies on your attention and our conversation, and both carry over video. If you live in Adelaide and would rather meet face to face, ask about meeting in person by arrangement.
I’ve tried to quit vaping before. Can hypnotherapy still help?
Yes. Past attempts give us clues. We find the exact moment your last try fell over and build the session around it.
What if the vape is what keeps me off cigarettes?
If a doctor is guiding that plan, check with them first. If you still smoke as well, we start with smoking, in its own program. Some clients find that quitting cigarettes helps them drop the vape at the same time. If the vape stays, we work on it next, in a separate program.
Is hypnotherapy covered by Medicare in Australia?
No, and you don’t need a GP referral to see me. Your health fund may pay something under extras, so it’s worth asking. Quitline’s counselling in South Australia, as in other states, is free.
Ready to put the vape down?
Choose a time, and I’ll call you within 24 hours. It’s free.
